The BEOWULF Cluster is up and running!
Introduction
As you know, some of the delay can
be reduced with an optimized video
encoding workstation--more ram,
faster networking, cpu, and video card, as
well as reduced system processes.
On the wireless front, I see the new
802.11a chipsets are being manufactured
now--5 Ghz, 45 Mbs. These should be
in shipping products by year end--something
for next years LTF.
On the server side, we received
funding on this year's LTF for a new, much
more powerful video server and
network infrastructure. I've ordered the
hardware to build it, but it won't
be ready for a few weeks. It should cut
down on the delay a bit. Here are
some of the computer/network specs:
Dual Pentium 1 Ghz CPUs, Intel STL2
Motherboard, 160 Mbs SCSI, 180 GB
drives, 2 GB PC133 RAM, 1 Gbit
Ethernet 64 Bit PCI, 1 Gbit network switch,
etc... it should be 10 times faster
than our current server.
