Mathematics Education: The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Northern Michigan University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Mathematics Education at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning in fall, 2009.  The successful applicant must possess an Ed.D. or a Ph.D. in Mathematics Education or related field, and should have K-12 teaching or supervisory experience.  ABD’s will be considered if substantial progress toward completion of the degree has been made prior to employment.  (An ABD would be hired at the Instructor level pending completion of the terminal degree.)  Applicants with specialized interests in any level of Mathematics Education are encouraged to apply.  Experience or interest in teaching on-line is desirable.

 The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Northern Michigan University prepares students for professional careers in mathematics, mathematics education, and computer science, while providing service and liberal studies courses for the broader university community. The department offers bachelor’s degrees in mathematics, mathematics education, and computer science, and a Master of Science degree in mathematics education.  In addition, the department contributes to the professional development and continuing education of K-12 mathematics teachers in the region. The department faculty includes five mathematics educators among a professorial staff of twenty-two. The secondary mathematics education program is housed in the department; mathematics educators also teach mathematics content and methods courses for elementary teachers.  Northern Michigan University is a comprehensive institution of over 9,500 students located in the city of Marquette on the shore of Lake Superior.  Marquette is a community of approximately 20,000 and is the cultural, commercial, medical and governmental center of Michigan's beautiful Upper Peninsula.  The region offers unexcelled outdoor recreational opportunities in all seasons.  Convenient access to the Upper Midwest's major population centers of Chicago, Minneapolis, Milwaukee, and Detroit is available through Sawyer International Airport.

 The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate mathematics and mathematics education courses; work with local schools and faculty; advise undergraduate and master's degree students; and demonstrate the potential to be an active professional, researcher, and scholar.
